O God, I am not satisfied by the pale portraits of You that others portray. I eagerly desire to see Your glory and to taste of Your goodness. O God please lead me to You.
It is not enough to know about God. “We must know God in ever growing levels of intimacy.” (AW Tozer) Only this will help us to rise above the world’s enticements and the Devil’s schemes. Only growing in our knowledge of God will help us overcome our own sinfulness. Only growth in intimacy with Him, will lead us to greater adoration, praise and worship. “I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. Let my meditation be pleasing to Him; As for me, I shall be glad in the Lord.” (Ps. 104:33-34)
Most people are simply not looking for more of God. The world is restless around us. The heart of the world is pulsating in a restless effort to discover the purpose and meaning of life, but it is always going in the wrong direction, away from Christ. They are looking for more fun, security or even a sense of self-worth, but never really more of God. People long for a better life for themselves and if “becoming a Christian” seems to help them, many are happy to recite a prayer or sing a hymn every now and then. However, becoming a Christian is not about just nodding our heads to a few truths. It is having your heart permeated and infused with divine power, the same power that rose Jesus Himself from the dead. There occurs this incredible work of the Holy Spirit to bring you into the world of the living for the very first time! Becoming a Christian is about the power of God changing your life. As you begin to understand more of His work on your behalf, it will lead you to ever increasing heights of praise and worship of Him.
A mark of one truly redeemed by the power of the Lord is an overwhelming passion and desire to know their Lord more deeply. When I observe the “Christianity” of our day, I find it lacking in any desire to really know God on a personal basis. Other things seem to have crept in and have left no room for this relationship to be fostered – so much so, that it can rarely be seen or even recognized in the church today. What we need to keep in mind is that whatever keeps me away from God is my enemy. The trouble today is that we do not recognize the enemy and really have become quite chummy with him. “You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility towards God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.” (Jam. 4:4)
The closer I get to God, the further away from the world I become. Beyond that even, the closer I get to God the further away from my old self I become. O if we could glimpse, just for a moment, the tremendous joy it is to know God deeply and the wonderful treasure there is in store for those that pursue Him above all else. “For he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” (Heb. 11:6) Everything would simply melt away. Our distractions would evaporate before our eyes and we would chase after Jesus with reckless abandon. I beg you dear one, see how immeasurably good the Lord is and seek Him today with all your heart. Turn to Him in prayers and search for Him in your bible. You know the way, put down the distractions and lay aside your excuses. Put aside your old self and stand apart from the world. Cry out to God, “I want to know you more, lead me deeper into you!”
